GOHS: DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE THIS HOLIDAY WEEKEND – RIDESHARE CREDITS AVAILABLE

(Media release from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety):

Those who choose to drink alcoholic beverages during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Georgia do not have to risk driving but can get a free or discounted ride from Uber.
Georgia is one of five states that have been awarded $25,000.00 in ride credits by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and Uber to help prevent drunk driving deaths.
Besides Georgia, the GHSA selected Colorado, Illinois, Missouri, and Texas to each receive ride share credits to be used in 2023.  The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) selected the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to make the credits available to Uber ride-share service users.
Federal crash data from 2017 to 2021 showed drunk driving was responsible for one-third of the traffic deaths in Georgia during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and 68 percent of drunk driving crashes that have occurred during the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend in Georgia during this five-year period involved a driver whose Blood-Alcohol Concentration (BAC) level was twice the .08 legal limit in Georgia.
“All drunk driving deaths are preventable because they are all caused by someone making the poor decision to drive after drinking,” Allen Poole, Director of the Governor’s Highway Safety said.  “GOHS thanks the GHSA and Uber for their efforts to stop drunk and drugged driving and we hope everyone who chooses to drink alcoholic beverages will always make the wise choice to give the keys to a sober, designated driver or call for a ride with cab or ride-share.”
Uber ride credits will be available during select hours from 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22 through 6:00 a.m. on Monday, November 27.  To receive a $25 credit, Uber account holders need to enter the code rUsQ0JNHGgv during selected hours during the holiday weekend in the discount code section of their app in order to receive the credit.  Each account will only be able to receive one $25 credit and the Uber account user must be in Georgia to receive the credit.
Specifically, the ride share credits will be available during the following hours:
Wednesday, November 22 – 9:00pm -11:59am
