Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent in October, unchanged from the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 3.2 percent.
“Georgia’s unemployment rate remains below the national average, but businesses face growing pressure, including finding and retaining top-tier talent,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “As we attract diverse companies across the state, we must remain focused on developing the skills needed to meet critical workforce demands without reallocating talent between industries. By prioritizing our labor force, we can further strengthen Georgia as a place where both businesses and individuals can thrive together.”
The labor force decreased in Rome by 77 and ended the month with 45,769. That number went up by 1,515 when compared to October of 2022.
Rome finished the month with 44,256 employed residents. That number decreased by 89 over-the-month and rose by 1,435 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Rome ended October with 45,200 jobs, an all-time high. That number increased by 300 from September to October and rose by 1,600 when compared to this time last year.
In October, initial unemployment claims decreased by 116 (-43%) in Rome. When you compare October 2023 claims to October 2022, claims were down by 121(-44%).
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was up one-tenth to 3.3 percent over-the-month, the rate was 3.2 percent one year ago.
- The labor force was down 1,281 over-the-month and up 8,573 over-the-year, to 438,495.
- The number of employed was down 1,539 over-the-month and up 7,878 over-the-year, to 424,122.
- Initial claims were down 353 (16%) over-the-month and down 1,543 (-45%) over-the-year, to 1,884.
