FLOYD COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT HONORS 2023 OFFICER OF THE YEAR, OFFICERS OF THE QUARTER, AND RETIREES AT THEIR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

On Tuesday, the Floyd County Police Department recognized its 2023 Officer of the Year, along with Officers of the Quarter, and Retirees, at its annual Christmas Luncheon.

Pfc. Robert Carrington was awarded Officer of the Year for his lifesaving actions on July 6th of this year. Officer Carrington was dispatched to a call on North Avery Road where a woman had been attacked by a large dog and was bleeding profusely. Officer Carrington calmly reassured her as he placed his own tourniquet on her to stop the bleeding.

Officer of the First Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Randol Tucker for his actions on March 9th, when he entered a burning house to get an elderly disabled man to safety.

Office of the Second Quarter was awarded to Sgt. Matt Meyers for his outstanding work while assigned to the DEA Task Force.

Officer of the Third Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Ethan Evans for his lifesaving actions with a person who had cut his wrist. Pfc. Evans applied his own tourniquet to stop the bleeding until the person could be transported to the hospital.

Officer of the Fourth Quarter was awarded to Pfc. Blake Puckett for his vehicle and foot chase that led to the apprehension of a subject wanted for several drive-by shootings in the city.

The FCPD also recognized and congratulated two officers on their retirement, Officer Jerome Poole and Sgt. John Glaze.

Officer Jerome Poole has worked for 34 for years with Floyd County. He worked for two years in 911, before going to work for the police department for more than 32 years. He has served on numerous boards and committees both in Floyd County Government and with local civic groups. He is currently serving as secretary for the Coosa Valley Fraternal Order of Police.

Sgt. John Glaze worked for the Floyd County Police Department for more than ten years. He served most of that time as a Shift Seargeant on 2nd shift. Prior to his time with the Floyd County Police, Sgt. Glaze served eight years in the United States Army and 20 years with the Rome Police Department.
