The 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly is rapidly approaching Crossover Day. It is the date by which bills must move from one legislative chamber to the other; any bills that fail to do so will no longer be taken into consideration for this session. Sine Die – the final legislative day – will also be here before you know it. That date (as of now) has been set for Thursday, March 28th, according to Katie Dempsey of Rome, who represents the 13th District in the Georgia House of Representatives. She looks forward to both days.
Balancing the state’s budget remains a top priority for both the House and the Senate during this session, states Dempsey, who adds that lawmakers’ goal is to spend wisely.
Among items currently on Dempsey’s legislative radar are measures to assist a pair of local men, Darrell Lee Clark and Joseph Watkins, who were recently released from prison after serving two decades apiece for crimes that they did not commit.
Interested parties may get legislative updates during the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly at www.legis.ga.gov. All state lawmakers’ contact information is also on that website, and Dempsey encourages her constituents to reach out to her with any questions or concerns.
