NORTHWEST GEORGIA COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA WRAPS UP BUSY FEBRUARY, LOOKS FORWARD TO A FLURRY OF ACTIVITY IN THE MONTHS AHEAD

We have arrived at the end of February, and this was a busy month for the Northwest Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Highlights included the Scouting for Food community service project. Eric Vaughn, who serves on the council’s Executive Board, attests that local scouts collected more than 2,000 canned goods for The Salvation Army of Rome, GA. Scout Sunday was also observed this month, along with the Boy Scouts of America’s 114th anniversary.

The council is now headed into Pinewood Derby season, enthuses Vaughn. It is a time of year during which Cub Scouts build and race wooden cars.

Races will take place among each Cub Scout pack throughout the next few weeks, says Vaughn, who adds that there will be a Pinewood Derby late in the season for the full Etowah Council, which includes Bartow, Chattooga, Floyd, and Polk Counties.

Pinewood Derby season will be followed by camping season for all scouts, according to Vaughn. He says that new scouts and volunteers are sought by the council all year long.
