Floyd County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Glenn White, has named Dena Tracy assistant principal at Alto Park Elementary School.
“I am honored and excited to have been selected as Assistant Principal of Alto Park Elementary School,” said Dena Tracy. “Floyd County Schools has been a part of my life for many years. I taught in the Pepperell district and previously served the district as the Social Studies Specialist, before being invited to join the staff of Shorter University as a professor in the School of Education. FCS has always held a special place in my heart, and I look forward to building champion learners with the exceptional teaching staff and wonderful families of Alto Park Elementary School. I am very grateful to Mr. Patrick Hopper, Dr. Glenn White, Mr. Danny Waits, and all members of our school board for this amazing opportunity.”
Tracy, a native of Rockmart, Georgia, has had much experience in various areas of Floyd County Schools. Her first job in the system was in 1993 at McHenry Elementary as a teacher for five years. From there, she worked as a teacher at Pepperell Elementary for 19 years.
In 2017, Mrs. Tracy transitioned into a new role in FCS and became the Social Studies Specialist for grades K-12. Following a two-year stint, she was then named the Assistant Professor of Education at Shorter University in 2019.
A graduate of Jacksonville State University, Tracy obtained a Bachelor of Education degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master of Education degree in Early Childhood Education. Before her time at JSU, she attended Floyd College (now Georgia Highlands) where she earned an Associate of Science degree.
In 2009, she added an Educational Specialist degree from JSU to her resume.
Skilled in various areas, Dena begins her new role with FCS with experiences such as team lead, lead professor, member of the teacher education committee at Shorter, and earning certifications and endorsements including the Reading Endorsement, Tier I in Educational Leadership and Digital Citizenship.
Dena is married to Bob Tracy, and they have one son, Ty.
