The month of May has arrived. Many people look forward to heading to the beach, spending days on the lake, and enjoying fun in the Sun. As you head out for all of these outdoor adventures, don’t forget to wear sunscreen and/or take other measures to protect your skin from the sun and potentially prevent skin cancer. This is the message of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition during the observance of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month in May.
Erin Hernandez, President and CEO, says that there has been much debate in recent days over which is more harmful – the sun itself or chemicals found in some sunscreens.
Hernandez still recommends using the right sunscreen for protection against harmful UV rays, as well as limiting time outdoors, seeking shade whenever possible, and wearing clothes that block the Sun.
Individuals that need assistance with skin cancer screening should contact the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition at (706) 291-9809.
