GHC COMMENCEMENT SET FOR MAY 15TH

Media release from Georgia Highlands College:

Hundreds of Georgia Highlands College (GHC) graduates will come together on May 15 in Rome to celebrate earning their college degree. 

GHC will have three events this year at the Floyd Campus gym, 3175 Cedartown Hwy, Rome GA 30161. 

Ceremonies will be held at 10:30AM and 6:30PM, with the Nursing pinning and commencement ceremony at 2:30PM. Due to limited seating, attendance will be limited to graduates and four guests per graduate. 

GHC ID and/or guest passes are required to enter the venue area. For those who cannot attend in person, livestreams of the ceremonies will be available at highlands.edu and on GHC’s social media channels – FacebookInstagram and X

Featured speakers this year include of Israel to the Southeastern United States Consul General Anat Sultan-Dadon, long-time educator and community leader Dr. Craig McDaniel, and Executive Vice President of Tilley Properties Guy Taff. 

Anat Sultan-Dadon

Anat Sultan-Dadon assumed her role as Consul General of Israel to the Southeastern United States in 2019. 

Sultan-Dadon joined the Israeli diplomatic corps in 2004 and has held various positions at the Embassies of Israel in Cameroon, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia, as well as positions in the Euro-Asia and the Asia-Pacific Divisions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem. 

She earned a B.A. in Psychology and Education from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a master’s Degree in Criminology with high honors at the same institution. In 2020, Sultan-Dadon was honored by Morehouse College with induction into the Martin Luther King Jr. International College of Ministers and Laity. 

In her current role in Atlanta, the Consul General is responsible for advancing the bilateral relations between Israel and seven southeastern states: Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi. 

Sultan-Dadon is married to Yaron, and they are the proud parents of three girls. 

Dr. Craig McDaniel  

Dr. Craig McDaniel is a native Roman and a graduate of West Rome High School. He is a commercial real estate agent with Toles, Temple, and Wright. His past work experience includes thirty-five years with Coosa Valley Tech and Georgia Northwestern Technical College. He served as president of Georgia Northwestern for fifteen years and in 2013 was named President Emeritus by the Technical College System of Georgia. From April 2013 until June 2014, he served as Assistant Commissioner for the International Center for the Technical College System of Georgia. During his tenure at the college, he served as a trustee of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and on the board of the Commission on Occupational Education. He has a B.S. from Carson Newman College, a Master’s from Georgia State University, and an Educational Specialist degree and a doctorate from the University of Georgia. 

McDaniel served as Chairman of the Board of the Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce in 2002 and as the chair of the Rome Floyd Development Authority that same year. He is a member of the Redmond Regional Medical Center Board of Directors and served as chair from 2002-2005. He served as president of Rome Rotary in 2010. He is a graduate of Leadership Rome and chaired the Rome Floyd 20/20 Steering Committee in 2008. He is a past member of the board of the United Way of Rome and Floyd County and chaired the 2013 campaign. In 2004, he received the Wesley F. Johnson Award of Merit and in 2008 was a recipient of the Heart of the Community Award. He served as a member of the Rome Baseball committee in 2001. 

Prior to his career in education, he worked for five years in manufacturing at Rome Kraft and U.S. Slate and Marble. While working at Coosa Valley Tech, he was also employed as a Basic Emergency Medical Technician at Floyd Medical Center for twelve years. 

He is a member of the Greater Rome Board of Realtors, Georgia Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. 

Guy Taff 

Guy Taff was born in Athens, Georgia. He was raised in Northern Italy where he completed grade school and began high school. Guy moved to back to the United States his junior year to his family’s farm in Stilesboro and graduated from Cartersville High School. The following fall he enrolled in Floyd Junior College and graduated with an Associate degree in Business.  

At the age of 21, he purchased his first piece of investment property while still a student at Floyd Junior College.   

Guy Taff is a seasoned executive who has served in various roles within Tilley Properties, Inc., a commercial and industrial real estate investment company. He started at the Company in maintenance and operating heavy equipment. Over the years he has served in different capacities and promoted along the way; he currently is Executive Vice President of the Company. 

With three decades of experience with the Company, Mr. Taff has extensive real estate experience and knowledge of all facets the business, including leadership and finance, solid waste management, environmental/regulatory compliance, zoning and land use, and organizational development.   

Guy is a graduate of Leadership Bartow and currently he serves on the Cartersville-Bartow County Airport Authority and the Cartersville-Bartow County Joint Development Authority Design Control Committee.  

He is married to former Carrie Cashwell, and they have three sons: Gage, Carter, and Owen. They reside in Cartersville and are active members of Sam Jones Methodist Church.
