The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals by 5-2 on Tuesday night in the second outing of a four game National League East set at Truist Park. That allowed the Braves to improve to 21-21 on the 2025 regular season – finally at .500!
The Nationals took an early lead with a home run by CJ Abrams to lead off the game. They increased that lead to 2-0 on an RBI single by Amed Rosario in the top of the fourth. Drake Baldwin had a two-run homer for the Braves in the bottom of that inning to tie it up at 2-2. Atlanta took a 3-2 lead with an RBI single by Austin Riley in the fifth. Eli White and Ozzie Albies had RBI singles in the sixth and eighth innings, and the Braves won the game, again, by a final score of 5-2.
Spencer Schwellenbach was Atlanta’s winning pitcher. He gave up just two runs and four hits, walked two, and struck out three through seven innings of work. Pierce Johnson got the save. Brad Lord took the loss for DC.

The Rome Emperors opened a 12-game road trip on Tuesday evening with a 7-5 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the first meeting of a six-game set at Greensboro, NC. That was the third straight win for the Emperors, who currently lead the South Atlantic League’s South Division with a 20-14 record for the 2025 season. The Grasshoppers are 23-11 and in second place of the North Division. The teams will meet again today at 11 am.
The Emperors’ series at Greensboro will continue through Sunday. That will be followed by an off-day on Monday, then a six-game series in Spartanburg, SC versus the Hub City Spartanburgers next week. Their next home game is slated for Tuesday, May 27th at AdventHealth Stadium against the Asheville Tourists.
