ATLANTA BRAVES WRAP UP NL EAST SET AT HOME WITH WIN OVER WASHINGTON NATIONALS AND HEAD TO BOSTON FOR WEEKEND SET VERSUS RED SOX, ROME EMPERORS’ SERIES AT GREENSBORO, NC CONTINUES THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves picked up a 5-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon in the finale of a four game National League East set at Truist Park. That allowed Atlanta to take the series by 3-1 and make a return to .500 with a record of 22-22 on the 2025 regular season.

The Braves got on the board with an RBI single from Nick Allen during the bottom of the third inning. They added three more in the fifth. Alex Verdugo got that started with an RBI single on his birthday. Drake Baldwin also contributed an RBI single, and Marcell Ozuna drove in a run with a sac fly in that inning. The Nationals scored a run on an error in the top of the sixth and another on a homer from CJ Abrams during the top of the eighth. Eli White clubbed an RBI single for the Braves during the bottom of the eighth.

AJ Smith-Shawver was Atlanta’s winning pitcher. He gave up one unearned run and two hits, walked two, and struck out six through six innings. Raisel Iglesias got the save. Trevor Williams took the loss for DC.

The Braves will open a six-game road trip this evening with the first of three games up in Boston, MA versus the Red Sox. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm at Fenway Park. The Rome Emperors fell to the Greensboro Grasshoppers by a final score of 5-4 on Thursday night in the third meeting of a six-game set at Greensboro, NC. That allowed the Grasshoppers to take a 2-1 lead in the series and sole possession of the top spot in the South Atlantic League’s North Division. The Emperors are in a tie for first place in the South Division. Those teams will meet again this evening at 6:30 pm.

The Emperors’ set at Greensboro will continue through this Sunday. It will be followed by an off day on Monday, then a six game series in Spartanburg, SC versus the Hub City Spartanburgers next Tuesday through Sunday.
