The Atlanta Braves lost to the Washington Nationals by 8-7 in 10 innings on Thursday evening to close out a National League East set at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.
Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna had back-to-back home runs to get the Braves on the board in the top of the first. The Nationals scored a run in the bottom of that inning on an RBI double by Keibert Ruiz. They took a 5-2 lead in the second on an RBI single by CJ Abrams and three-run double by James Wood. Michael Harris II contributed a two-run single and Alex Verdugo walked in a run for Atlanta to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the fourth. The Nats scored two runs in the bottom of that inning on an RBI single from Ruiz and an RBI groundout by Luis Garcia Jr. The Braves scored a run on an RBI single from Ozuna in the seventh, then tied it at 7-7 on an RBI double by Olson in the top of the ninth. However, the Nationals won it on a walk-off single from Amed Rosario in the bottom of the tenth.
Dylan Lee was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Jackson Rutledge picked up the win for DC.
The Braves are now 24-25 for the 2025 regular season. They will return to Truist Park in Atlanta tonight to open a three-game weekend series versus the San Diego Padres. Ronald Acuna Jr. is slated to return from the injured list to Atlanta’s line-up tonight.
The Rome Emperors fell to the Hub City Spartanburgers by 2-1 on Thursday night in the third meeting of a six-game set in Spartanburg, SC. That allowed the Spartanburgers to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Also, Rome and Hub City are now in a three-way tie with the Bowling Green Hot Rods for first place in the South Atlantic League’s South Division. The Emperors will take on the Spartanburgers again this evening at 7:05 pm.
The Emperors’ series at Spartanburg will continue through Sunday to wrap up a 12-game road trip. They will be back on their home field at AdventHealth Stadium on the evening of Tuesday, May 27th versus the Asheville Tourists.
