The official start of Summer is approaching, and the temperatures are rising. The Salvation Army of Rome, GA is in urgent need of bottled water to offer to the homeless of the community.
Major Hank Harwell, Corps Officer, says that concerned citizens may help by donating bottled water to help those in need to stay hydrated amid a Summer swelter.
Those donations may be taken to The Salvation Army of Rome, GA at 317 East 1st Avenue.
Major Harwell adds that the non-profit also offers some financial assistance for cooling to individuals who qualify and works alongside the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency to establish cooling stations around town in the event of extreme heat.
Monetary donations are also sought at this time and year-round. Fundraising from the Red Kettle Campaign this past holiday season was down, according to Harwell, who asserts that this has put his organization in a bit of a bind for the Summer.
Another way to support the organization is to shop at its Family Store, which also accepts donations of gently used items. All proceeds from the store stay local and fund utility assistance, shelter, feeding, and more.
