BEAT THE HEAT THIS SUMMER WITH GEORGIA STATE PARKS AND HISTORIC SITES

Summer officially begins this Friday, June 20th. Soaring temperatures in the weeks ahead will inevitably prompt Georgians to search for ways to beat the heat. Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites are poised to help the public stay cool with beaches, pools, and even museums.

Kim Hatcher, Public Affairs Coordinator, suggests a day at the beach at Fort Mountain State Park located in Chatsworth, Red Top Mountain State Park on Lake Allatoona, or Don Carter State Park on Lake Lanier.

Some of the parks around the state offer pools, like FD Roosevelt in Pine Mountain. Children enjoy splash pads at parks such as Magnolia Springs in Millen.

Georgians may also choose to seek relief from the heat in the ‘great indoors’ at a museum, states Hatcher. Options include Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site in Cartersville and the Dahlonega Gold Museum.

Those who plan to visit a state park over the 4th of July weekend are urged by Hatcher to visit early, as parks are anticipated to fill quickly.
