A portion of Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden that has been closed for more than a quarter of a century will re-open to the public this weekend.
The Paradise Garden Foundation recently announced that the World’s Folk Art Church will re-open for visitors to explore on Sunday, June 22nd. It was closed by Finster himself in 1999, prior to the popular folk artist’s passing in 2001.
Tina Cox, Executive Director of the Paradise Garden Foundation, invites all Northwest Georgians to this Sunday’s re-opening. Summerville Day will be celebrated at Paradise Garden on June 28th.
Following the official re-opening, the World’s Folk Art Church will remain open to the public during Paradise Garden’s normal hours of operation. Cox says that the tower atop the church will only be opened for special occasions like Finster Fest in September.
Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2011. Learn more about Finster and his Garden online at www.paradisegardenfoundation.org.
