The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets by 7-3 on Wednesday evening in the third meeting of a four-game National League East set in New York. It was the Braves’ first loss to the Mets for this season.
The Mets struck first with a home run by Ronny Mauricio to open the bottom of the third inning. The Braves tied the game up at 1-1 on a homer by Drake Baldwin in the top of the fourth. However, the Mets surged ahead with five runs in the bottom of that inning on a home run by Juan Soto, sac fly by Starling Marte, RBI single from Brett Baty, sac fly by Francisco Lindor, and RBI single by Brandon Nimmo. Soto added another homer in the seventh. Ronald Acuna Jr. drove in the Braves’ last two runs of the night on an RBI single in the ninth.
Didier Fuentes took the loss for Atlanta after surrendering six runs and eight hits, walking none, and striking out one over just three and one-third innings. Clay Holmes was credited with the win and Edwin Diaz got the save for New York.
Jonathan Pintaro, former Shorter University pitcher, made his MLB debut for the Mets in Wednesday night’s game.
The Braves are now 37-42 for the 2025 regular season and remain in third place of the NL East, while the Mets remain in second place at 47-34. The Rome Emperors fell to the Greenville Drive by 6-2 on Wednesday night in the second outing of a six-game set at AdventHealth Stadium. That series is now tied at a game each. The teams will meet again tonight at 7 pm.
