ENJOY 4TH OF JULY WEEKEND BUT STAY SAFE AMID THE SUMMER HEAT!

Enjoy your 4th of July celebrations but stay safe amid the Summer heat! The National Weather Service anticipates that high temperatures will soar into the mid 90s throughout the holiday weekend.

Now is the time to keep an eye on both people and animals, according to Dr. Gary Voccio, Health Director for the Georgia Department of Public Health’s 10-county Northwest Health District. He says that both should stay indoors as much as possible, as extreme heat can be very dangerous.

Dr. Voccio encourages individuals who do not have a place to cool down to take advantage of local cooling centers or even chill out at the mall.

If you must go outdoors, be sure to wear loose fitting, light colored clothing and try to limit outdoor activity to the early morning or late evening.

Here’s a vital reminder from Dr. Voccio – never leave kids or pets in hot cars, even for a moment.

And in this Summer swelter, Dr. Voccio also reminds everyone in his district to be sure to drink plenty of water!
