The Atlanta Braves lost their last game before the MLB All-Star break to the St. Louis Cardinals by 5-4 on Sunday in the final meeting of a three-game set at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, MO. It was a meeting that was interrupted by two rain delays. The Braves were denied a sweep of that series.
The Cardinals scored the first run of the day on an RBI single by Victor Scott II in the bottom of the second inning. The Braves tied the game at 1-1 during the top of the third on an RBI single by Matt Olson and took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Olson. The Cardinals tied it at 3-3 on a a two-run double by Willson Contreras in the fifth and took a 5-3 lead with a two-run homer by Jose Fermin in the sixth. Michael Harris II scored another run for the Braves on an error in the seventh, but the Cardinals held on for the win, again, by a final score of 5-4.
Jesse Chavez was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Gordon Graceffo picked up the win and Ryan Helsley got the save for St. Louis.
The Braves enter the All-Star break with a record of 42-53 and in fourth place of the National League East. They will be back in action on their home field at Truist Park on Friday evening with a match against the New York Yankees. It is now Atlanta’s time to shine as the host of the 2025 MLB All-Star Game. The main attraction is slated for Tuesday night, with the Home Run Derby set for tonight.
The Rome Emperors fell to the Hub City Spartanburgers by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday in the finale of a six-game set at AdventHealth Stadium. Hub City took the series by 4-2.
The Emperors now join the rest of Minor League Baseball in observing the Major League Baseball All-Star break. They will be in Asheville, NC for a three-game set against the Tourists over the weekend, then head to New York for a six-game series versus the Hudson Valley Renegades next week.
