REGISTER NOW FOR THE 40TH ANNUAL TILLMAN CLOCKTOWER 5K ROAD RACE AND 2-MILE HEALTH WALK

The 40th Annual Tillman Clocktower 5K Road Race and 2-Mile Health Walk is rapidly approaching! It will be held on Saturday, August 16th to raise funds for the Family Resource Center. Runners and walkers who register by today (August 6th) at www.frcrome.org/tillman will be guaranteed a race t-shirt and gifts from sponsors.

Gail Johnson, co-chair, says that the race was started four decades ago by the Rome Jaycees to raise funds for the restoration of Rome’s iconic Clocktower. It has served as fundraiser for the FRC for the past two decades.

Proceeds from this year’s event will support the FRC mission of child abuse prevention, adds Johnson.

Since 2006, the FRC has received close to $470,000 in proceeds from the Tillman Clocktower 5K Road Race and 2-Mile Health Walk.

According to the race and walk course descriptions from the FRC:

The challenging yet scenic 5K course winds through historic downtown Rome, passing several iconic landmarks. After beginning on West 3rd Street, runners make their way toward the daunting Clocktower Hill, circle historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery, and cross the Robert Redden Footbridge to finish. The 5K course is USATF certified (course number GA24030WC), is chip-timed by Wire2Wire Running, and serves as a qualifier for the Peachtree Road Race.

The 2-Mile Health Walk offers a gentler route, still including the Clocktower Hill climb, but branching off to the Forum’s Town Green and crossing the John Ross Footbridge before following the Oostanaula River back to Heritage Park.
