ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN NL EAST SET WITH WIN OVER MIAMI MARLINS, ROME EMPERORS’ CURRENT ROAD TRIP CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves snapped a three-game losing skid on Thursday night with an 8-6 victory over the Miami Marlins in the opener of a five-game National League East set at Truist Park.

Drake Baldwin got the Braves on the board with a solo home run during the bottom of the first inning. That was followed by a home run from Marcell Ozuna. The Marlins answered with five runs in the top of the second to include an RBI single from Jakob Marsee, two run triple from Eric Wagaman, and two-run homer by Graham Pauley. They added another in the fourth on an RBI single by Augustin Ramirez. Baldwin hit a three-run homer for the Braves in the sixth. He had an RBI single to tie the game at 6-6 in the seventh. The Braves took the lead in that inning when Jurickson Profar scored on a throwing error. They increased that lead to 8-6 when Jonathan Ornelas scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.

Pierce Johnson was credited with the win and Raisel Iglesias got the save for Atlanta. Josh Simpson took the loss for Miami.

The Braves will face the Marlins again tonight at 7:15 pm. Fans may listen to play-by-play coverage from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 6 pm.

This NL East set between the Braves and the Marlins will continue through Sunday and will include a day-night double header on Saturday to make up a game that was postponed earlier in the season.

The Rome Emperors split a double header versus the Greenville Drive on Thursday evening in Greenville, SC. The Drive won the opener by 7-3, and the Emperors won the nightcap by a final score of 3-2. The seven-game set between those teams is now tied at 2-2. They will meet again this evening; first pitch is slated for 6:45 pm.

The Emperors’ series at Greenville will continue through Sunday. They will be back in action on their home field at AdventHealth Stadium in Rome next Tuesday through Sunday with a six-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
