Media release from Floyd County, GA Schools:
The Georgia Department of Education has released the 2024 Georgia Milestones results, and once again, Floyd County Schools (FCS) has proven to be a regional and statewide leader in student achievement.
With exceptional growth and performance in every assessed area, FCS continues to set the standard for academic excellence across Northwest Georgia and surrounding school districts.
Key Highlights from the 2024 Results:
- Outperformed State and Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) in All 13 Tested Areas
- In third-grade literacy, we once again outperformed the state, scoring 15 points higher
- In Algebra: Concepts and Connections, 72.8% of our students scored in the Proficient and Distinguished levels—26 points above the state average
These achievements align seamlessly with the district’s 2024-25 academic theme, “Learning Without Limits,” which reflects FCS’s commitment to removing barriers, exceeding expectations, and unlocking the full potential of every student.
“This year’s scores are a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and instructional staff,” said Dr. Glenn White, Superintendent of Floyd County Schools. “Our continued success is a team effort—driven by a shared mission and strong community support. We’re proud of where we are, and we’re even more excited about where we’re going.”
FCS credits its success to several key strategies:
- A strong focus on early literacy and foundational learning
- Instructional coaching and targeted academic interventions
- The use of curriculum maps to ensure alignment with the Georgia Standards
“Our schools continue to build on a tradition of excellence,” added John Parker, Assistant Superintendent and Chief Academic Officer. “We’re especially proud of how our students showed growth across all areas. These results would not have been possible without the incredible work of our classroom teachers and academic coaches, who pour their time, energy, and expertise into ensuring that every student succeeds. Their efforts are the foundation of our progress, and we look forward to building on this success throughout the coming school year.”
The Georgia Milestones assessments measure students’ proficiency across core subjects and provide valuable insight into how well schools are preparing students for the next level. FCS’s continued high performance highlights the district’s strong instructional practices and deep commitment to student achievement.
