GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: METRO ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA SEE SLIGHT RISES IN JULY UNEMPLOYMENT

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.9% in July, up two-tenths over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.3%.

“Our greatest strength is our people and the businesses that call Georgia home,” said Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “July’s unemployment numbers show progress across most metro areas, and even where there are slight upticks, year-over-year trends reflect our resilience. By investing in our workforce and supporting a strong environment for business, Georgia will continue to win and drive economic growth for all Georgians.”

The labor force in Rome rose 66 from last month and 1,079 from July 2024, reaching 48,349.

Rome finished the month with 46,444 employed residents, down 72 over the month and up 1,211 from July 2024.

Rome ended July with 47,400 jobs, down 200 over the month and up 1,900 from the same time last year.

In July, initial unemployment claims in Rome increased by 197 from the previous month and fell by 75 from the same month a year ago, totaling 412.

Northwest Georgia

  • The unemployment rate was up four-tenths to 3.8% over-the-month. The rate was 3.8% one year ago.
  • The labor force was up 2,094 over-the-month and up 480 over-the-year, to 457,633.
  • The number of employed was up 336 over-the-month and up 450 over-the-year, to 440,170.
  • Initial claims up 2,287 over-the-month and up 1,039 over-the-year, to 4,152.
