NEW ECHOTA STATE HISTORIC SITE TO HOST ‘YOUR STATE PARKS DAY’ CLEAN-UP ON SEPTEMBER 27TH

In celebration of National Public Lands Day 2025, New Echota-Cherokee Capital State Historic Site in Calhoun and the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites are hosting ‘Your State Parks Day 2025’ on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The public is invited and encouraged to participate in our annual Your State Parks Day event. Participating volunteers will have an opportunity to visit the site and give back to the park system.

In 2024, volunteers in Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites contributed 75,000 hours of volunteer work equaling approximately 1.5 million dollars in work and services from 40 Friends Chapters around the state of Georgia.

There will be various light work projects led by the Park Rangers and Friends of New Echota volunteer group throughout the day, including trail maintenance, historic building furnishings preservation and cleaning, Cherokee Farmstead Garden work and landscaping. The event is open to all ages and groups. Organized Scout Troops and other groups are encouraged to participate and should call 706-624-1321 to register and reserve a project.

Friends of New Echota State Historic Site members will be available to highlight ongoing year-round volunteer opportunities and how to join the Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites organization. Admission fees will be waived for all volunteers who participate and will include self-guided tour access to the historic grounds, buildings, and trails throughout the afternoon.
