Media release from Floyd County, GA:
The Floyd County Prison is making a change over from the traditional white with blue striped inmate uniform to a more durable denim with an orange stripe.
Warden Mike Long said not only is the fabric more durable, but there will also be an amount of cost savings as part of the switchover. The changeover has already begun as the new uniforms are being issued as new inmates come to the facility.
During this transition there will be a mix of the new denim uniforms with an orange stripe down the leg and the old white uniforms.
Inmate crews provide a number of services in Floyd County, including cutting grass, construction, and other jobs that add millions in value to Floyd County through programs like:
- Providing skilled construction services during the most recent Floyd County Jail renovations.
- Maintaining of three former Ga. Department of Natural Resources boat ramps.
- Constructing community pavilions and expanding Ag programs, like bee keeping.
- Clearing land at the Richard B. Russell Regional Airport, where the prison now operates a state grant-funded sawmill.
- Litter control operations on Fridays and Saturdays, collecting and removing waste on the roadways.
The transition to the new uniforms should be completed by the first of next year, Long said.
