GNTC ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR LATIN AMERICAN ASSOCIATION-MOHAWK SCHOLARSHIPS

Media release from Georgia Northwestern Technical College:

Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) is accepting applications for the 2026 Latin American Association-Mohawk Scholarships through Oct. 31.

This scholarship, funded by the Latin American Association (LAA) with the sponsorship of Mohawk Industries Inc., supports students involved in the Hispanic community who graduated from eligible high schools in Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Murray or Whitfield Counties. Up to six scholarships will be awarded for the spring 2026 semester.

“We are deeply grateful to the Latin American Association and Mohawk for this ongoing support,” said Lauretta Hannon, executive director of Institutional Advancement at GNTC. “It’s wonderful to see how their investment is helping our students realize their dreams.”

Already designated as an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution, GNTC is working to become a Hispanic-Serving Institution, Hannon said.

“As our Hispanic student enrollment continues to grow, these LAA-Mohawk Scholarships are especially meaningful and needed,” she said.

According to the Latin American Association (LAA), the organization is collaborating with GNTC to change the lives of students and families and advance outcomes for the Latino community in northwest Georgia and beyond.

The $1,000 scholarships will be applied to tuition, fees and related educational expenses. Recipients are selected based on need and merit.

In addition to meeting the county residency requirement, applicants must be involved in the Hispanic community in one or more ways: heritage, involvement, volunteerism, language and support; be a U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident or DACA recipient; be a GNTC student in good standing and enrolled full-time or part-time for the 2025-26 academic year; and complete an essay (between 250 and 500 words) explaining how the LAA-Mohawk scholarship could benefit the student’s financial needs.

The Latin American Association (LAA) works to lower the barriers to economic mobility and prosperity that the Latino community may encounter as they adapt and integrate in life in the United States and helps bring the American dream to life by offering resources, support and a sense of community that all families in Georgia need to thrive. Founded in 1972, the work of the LAA improves the lives of 40,000 individuals every year.
