FLOYD COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO OFFER FREE BREAST EXAMS ON FRIDAY

Media release from the Floyd County Health Department:

The Floyd County Health Department will host a breast-cancer awareness event featuring free breast exams Friday, October 17, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the health department, 16 East 12th Street, Rome. Interested women may walk in for service during these hours. Door prizes, activities, and gift bags will be provided.

From 2020 through 2024, there were 68 deaths in Floyd County due to breast cancer. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, but early detection through regular screenings can save lives.

“We’re committed to making preventive care accessible to everyone,” says Mya Wooten, health department nurse manager. “This event removes financial barriers and empowers women to take charge of their health. Our healthcare professionals will provide clinical breast exams in a supportive, private environment.” Educational materials and resources on breast health and self-exams will also be available.
