HALLOWEEN COSTUME SAFETY TIPS FROM THE ROME-FLOYD FIRE DEPARTMENT

Are you a last minute Halloween costume purchaser or designer? The Rome-Floyd Fire Department offers some costume tips to ensure safe and fun trick-or-treating for local families.

Linda Patty, Life and Fire Safety Educator, urges parents to be certain that mask-wearing kids can see through those masks.

It is also wise for trick-or-treaters to be visible. Kids should carry a flashlight or glowstick, especially if dressed in a dark costume, says Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator.

Additionally, be sure that your kids’ costumes fit. Alter costumes if they are long enough to be a tripping hazard, suggests Patty, who adds that reflective tape may also be added to costumes to increase visibility.

Here’s another tip from the RFD – take the kids to Treats Not Streets 2025, slated for this Friday from 3 pm until 5:30 pm on the lawn of the former Law Enforcement Center at 5 Government Plaza in downtown Rome. There will be a kids costume contest at 4 pm, and, of course, candy. Patty enthuses that it’s a ‘really great event’.

Patty and Farrer both encourage community members to check out the latest video from “Scout and Goose” featuring Halloween life and fire safety tips; it is available on the Rome-Floyd Fire Department’s Facebook page.
