FLOYD COUNTY CLERK OF SUPERIOR COURT ENCOURAGES VETERANS TO RECORD THEIR DD-214

Media release from the Floyd County, GA Clerk of Superior Court:

In recognition of Veterans Day, the Floyd County Clerk of Superior Court Mary Hardin Thornton is encouraging all veterans from every branch of military service to ensure their DD-214 is recorded at the courthouse.

The DD-214, issued by the Department of Defense upon discharge from military service, is the official record of a veteran’s service, including dates, specialty, awards, and character of service. This document is essential for accessing benefits such as the GI Bill, VA home loans, Social Security benefits, employment verification, veteran organization membership, and military funeral honors.

Thornton emphasized the importance of having this record readily available.
“I have discovered that many veterans do not know about this service and did not have their DD-214 recorded. Although some may have recorded their DD-214 in another county or state, we encourage you to also record them here in Floyd County,” she said. “You can bring your DD-214 to the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office, located at 3 Government Plaza, Suite 101, and we will record it for your records.

Recording your DD-214 ensures peace of mind and easy access when documentation is needed. Veterans are invited to take advantage of this complimentary service by visiting the Clerk of Superior Court’s Office.

“If you ever need a certified copy, our office can provide one without the need to contact another county or state,” Thornton said. “This is a free service to all our veterans that my office is delighted to offer. You paid it forward for all of us. Thank you.”
