CITY OF SUMMERVILLE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE SET FOR DECEMBER 1ST

The City of Summerville will present the 2025 Christmas Parade, on Monday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “Let It Be Christmas Everywhere”. The parade route will begin at the junction of Hwy. 27 and Hwy 114 and disband at Hwy.27 at Hurley Crossing.

Parade Grand Marshal

City of Summerville Mayor Harry Harveywill serve as the 2025 Parade Grand Marshal. He is a retired educator who has worked in the Chattooga County School System for over forty years.  Mayor Harvey and his wife Annie have four grown children.  He has been a Principal at Leroy Massey Elementary School and Pennville Elementary School; Assistant Principal/Teacher at Summerville Middle/Summerville Jr. High and Chattooga High School in the Chattooga County School System.  He has also served as a Teacher Supervisor/Trainer in Northwest Georgia.
Harry attended and studied at Fort Valley State College – Fort Valley, GA, (B.S. Mathematics Ed.); West Georgia State College – Carrollton, GA, (M.ED. Mathematics Ed.); Jacksonville State University – Jacksonville, AL, (Ed.S. Mathematics, Administration/Supervision certificate) and University of Georgia – Athens, GA for further study in Administration/Supervision. He has also taken and participated in numerous courses through the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) and other government organizations.
Harry’s interests are: travel, reading, golf , fishing and people.  He is active and interested in the community.  He is a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and a member of Holland Lodge #47.  Harry belongs to several professional and civic organizations.
Mayor Harvey has served on the Council/Mayor for 16 years. Being elected to the Summerville City Council and as Mayor was an honor and an opportunity to serve this great community

Lighting of The Courthouse Tree

Santa will do the honors of the Annual Lighting of The Courthouse Christmas Tree as he makes his way through town in the parade. His sleigh and reindeer will make a quick pause in front of the Courthouse as he works his magic to light the tree, wish all a Merry Christmas, and continue through the parade route. Spectators young and young at heart will enjoy this special lighting of the tree.

Christmas Parade Vendor Market

A Christmas Parade Vendor Market located on East Washington Street open from 6:00 -9:00 p.m. The market will include both food and craft vendors. The east bound lane of East Washington Street will be closed to parking and traffic from U.S. Hwy 27 Commerce Street to Economy Street beginning at 6:00 a.m.- 10:00 p.m. on December 1 for this special Vendor Market. The public is also reminded that the downtown businesses and restaurants will be ready for patrons to shop and enjoy a meal before or after the parade.

Parade Registration And Timeline

The city encourages church groups, civic organizations, clubs, schools, and business to participate with floats and various parade entries. Trophies will be awarded by the Summerville Recreation Department for the top 3 float entries and prize monies in the amount of $150.00 for 1st Place, $100.00 for 2nd Place, and $75.00 for 3rd Place will be awarded.

The parade entry fee is $25.00 and registration will close on December 1 at 2:00 p.m. Registration can be done on line by visiting www.summervillerec.org or by visiting the Summerville Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Parade Timeline

  • 5:30 PM – Small floats arrive at high school staging area, entrances and drop offs only from Hwy 100 for ALL entries/No entrance from Hwy 114
  • 6:00 PM – Marching/Walking units line up at Ingles parking lot near U.S. 27, all big trucks & tractor trailers lineup at Rec. Dept. ball field parking lot
  • 6:15 PM – All units in position & floats will be judged
  • 6:30 PM – Horses should be lined up at Tennis Court Area.

  • 7:00 PM – Parade Begins
