The Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency has partnered with the National Weather Service this week for the observance of Severe Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia. The purpose is to encourage Georgians to learn about and prepare for all types of weather events.
Various mobile apps provide a wealth of weather alerts and preparedness tips, says Tim Herrington, Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency. He highly recommends the Floyd EMA mobile app, available free of charge through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
There is a different focus for each day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Monday was Family Preparedness/NOAA Weather Radio Day, and the focus was on Thunderstorm Safety for Tuesday. Wednesday’s concentration is Tornado Safety. Herrington says that tornadoes can strike at any time of year, even in the Winter. Lightning Safety will be Thursday’s topic, and the week will conclude with a focus on Flash Flooding and Flood Safety on Friday.
