Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (March 2, 2026) — With recent developments overseas pushing oil prices higher, Georgia drivers are beginning to feel the effects at the pump. The state average has now risen to $2.78 a gallon, up from last week, and some day‑to‑day price fluctuations are still likely.
“Gas prices are rising because instability in the global oil market is creating supply concerns that quickly influence prices here at home,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “At the same time, refineries are switching to the more expensive summer gasoline blend, and demand is rising in anticipation of spring travel. With conditions changing quickly, it’s hard to know what’s next, which is why it’s a good time to follow the gas‑saving tips provided.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 9 cents higher than last week
- 12 cents higher than last month
- 16 cents lower than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the cost now comes to approximately $41.70.
Nationwide Surge: Fuel Prices on the Rise
Across the nation, gas prices are on the rise, despite spring still being weeks away. The national average jumped five cents this week to $2.98. Refineries are switching to pricier summer-blend gasoline, and demand is set to rise with spring break travel next month. Adding to the pressure are global tensions tied to the conflict with Iran.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same at 39 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($2.83), Atlanta ($2.81), and Valdosta ($2.80).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Albany ($2.71), Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.70), and Rome ($2.66).
