Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (March 9, 2026) — Another week brings another increase at the pump, as Georgia drivers continue to see gas prices edge higher. The state average has now risen to $3.22 a gallon, up from last week, and some day‑to‑day price fluctuations are still likely.
“As tensions in the Middle East continue to limit oil flow, gas prices remain on the upswing,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA–The Auto Club Group. “With supply routes disrupted and global markets reacting to ongoing uncertainty, AAA advises drivers to take advantage of every opportunity to save at the pump.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 44 cents higher than last week
- 56 cents higher than last month
- 31 cents higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the cost now comes to approximately $48.30.
Nationwide Fuel Costs Continue to Climb
Across the country, drivers are continuing to feel the impact of rising gas prices. The national average has climbed 47 cents over the past week to $3.45, driven largely by increasing crude oil costs. Ongoing instability in the Middle East has slowed shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and disrupted regional oil production, limiting access to millions of barrels of supply each day. These constraints are putting steady upward pressure on fuel prices nationwide, and while it’s impossible to predict how much higher they may go, drivers should understand that global uncertainty remains a major factor behind the current spike at the pump.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station stayed the same at 39 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Atlanta ($3.27), Athens ($3.25), and Savannah ($3.24).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Augusta-Aiken ($3.10), Dalton ($3.09), and Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($3.06).
