Press Release from Floyd County Clerk’s Office:
The Floyd County Historic Courthouse was evacuated after a fire was discovered in the building around 2:20 p.m. on Monday.
All employees inside were safely evacuated, according to Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord. Crews with the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department are currently on scene working to contain the blaze. Roads in the downtown area are blocked as fire crews work to contain the blaze.
The courthouse was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire. At this time, the cause remains unknown and is under investigation.
