The Atlanta Braves fell to the Kansas City Royals by a final score of 4-1 on Sunday in the last meeting of a three-game season opening set at Truist Park. The Braves still took the series by two games to one.
The Royals scored runs on an RBI single by Bobby Witt Jr. in the top of the third inning, a solo home run by Carter Jensen in the fourth, RBI single from Vinnie Pasquantino in the fifth, and a sac fly by Jensen in the eighth. Drake Baldwin homered in the eighth to score the Braves’ lone run of the day.
Grant Holmes was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up three runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out four through five innings of work. Seth Lugo was credited with the win and Lucas Erceg got the save for Kansas City.
Highlights of this past weekend’s regular season opening series included a walk-off grand slam by Dominic Smith that lifted the Braves to victory over the Royals on Saturday night.
