Media release from Floyd County, GA:
The Floyd County Tax Commissioner’s office was fully operational as of Monday, March 30, following last week’s fire at the historic courthouse.
After the incident, staff returned Tuesday morning to a workspace without basic supplies. By the end of the day, several departments had secured desks, chairs, and established a recovery plan. By Wednesday, the property tax office was up and running. Thursday afternoon, tag office equipment and inventory were fully restored. This allowed for a soft opening of the tag office on Friday.
As of Monday, the office is once again fully open to the public at 5 Government Plaza on the first floor, with four tag office windows and two property tax windows to serve the public. All phone lines are operational, and office hours remain unchanged, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Assessor’s office is also fully functional. The public is encouraged to check in at the first-floor lobby for assistance. Normal business hours remain in effect, and the deadline for Homestead exemption remains April 1.
Floyd County Tax Commissioner Kevin Payne said, “The help from the county, from the commissioners to the manager’s office, has been more than we could have ever asked for.” He thanked the IT department, Human Resources, Facilities Management, Finance, Purchasing, the Floyd County Prison, and many others for working tirelessly to provide his staff with the resources needed to reopen.
Both offices appreciate the public’s patience and support during this time and look forward to continuing to serve the community.
