Georgia Highlands College (GHC) recently welcomed high-achieving high school seniors and their families to campus for the college’s first President’s Scholars Day, an elevated academic experience designed to connect prospective students with the college’s programs, opportunities, and community.
The event brought together seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA who demonstrated strong academic motivation and leadership potential. Throughout the day, attendees participated in a variety of engaging sessions aimed at helping them explore their college options and envision their future at Georgia Highlands College.
President’s Scholars Day featured academic program highlights, student-led panels representing the Honors Program, as well as a dedicated financial aid session for parents and families. Students also had the opportunity to take part in scholarship interviews, providing a pathway to further support their educational goals.
A highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by Dr. Lawrence J. DeLucas, former NASA astronaut and Space Shuttle Columbia crew member. DeLucas shared insights from his career in science and space exploration, encouraging students to think boldly about their potential and future paths.
Attendees were invited to dress in “Sunday Dress” or dress-to-impress attire, reinforcing the event’s elevated and celebratory atmosphere. Light refreshments were provided as students and families connected with faculty, staff, and current students.
President’s Scholars Day reflects Georgia Highlands College’s continued commitment to expanding community-focused events and creating meaningful opportunities for the next generation of students. By offering experiences that combine academic exploration, mentorship, and inspiration, the college aims to strengthen its connection with prospective students and support their journey toward higher education.
