Monday was set aside as a federal holiday to honor the life and legacy of late Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King was honored throughout the weekend in Rome with a full slate of events that were hosted by the MLK Commission of Rome/Northwest Georgia, highlighted by Monday’s Freedom March down Broad Street.
The Commission’s Alvin Jackson said during a recent interview on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM that the words (and actions) of Dr. King have served as an inspiration throughout the years.
King was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968 outside the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, now the site of the National Civil Rights Museum.
