SPLOST CITIZEN COMMITTEE, PROJECT LIST SHAPING UP

The City of Rome, Floyd County, and Cave Spring have been in the midst of assembling local residents to serve on the 2023 SPLOST (or Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) Citizen Committee.

This committee will be tasked with reviewing proposed SPLOST projects and choosing the final project list to be presented to the City of Cave Spring, City of Rome, and Floyd County elected officials for approval. The SPLOST package will appear on the ballots of Floyd County voters in November.

Craig McDaniel, member of the Rome City Commission and a past Chair of the SPLOST Citizen Committee, says that serving on the committee requires a commitment of time. Local attorney Bob Berry will serve as Chair of this year’s committee.

SPLOST money has funded several projects throughout the years which have improved quality of life in the community, such as the Rome Braves’ stadium, the Rome Tennis Center, and Public Animal Welfare Services (PAWS), attests McDaniel.

Floyd County, the City of Rome, and the City of Cave Spring are soliciting applications for SPLOST projects. The deadline is March 31st. Applications are available online at https://www.floydcountyga.gov/2023splostapp.

Floyd County continues to accept applications for the 2023 SPLOST Citizen Committee at www.floydcountyga.gov/committeeapp through Friday, March 17th.
