The federal funding COVID-19 waivers that allowed all students to receive meals at no charge ended in June 2022. For the 2023-24 school year, Floyd County Schools has implemented a new charge protocol that will go into effect on August 3, 2023.
A breakdown of this protocol includes:
- Lunch prices are as follows:
- Paid Lunch Elementary–$2.25
- Paid Lunch M/H–$2.50
- Paid Breakfast All Grade–$1.00
- Reduced All Grade–No Charge
- Adult Breakfast–$1.25
- Adult Lunch–$4.00
- All student meal charges will have a $20 limit.
- Charge letters will be sent and an all-call will be made to the student’s household weekly when the student’s meal account balance is negative $5.00. A free/reduced price meal application will be attached to the charge letter.
- ONLY high school students who have accrued a combined total of $20.00 in breakfast and lunch charges will receive an alternate meal.
- The alternate meal at lunch will consist of a grilled cheese sandwich, fresh fruit, and a choice of juice or milk.
- For breakfast, the alternate meal will be cereal, toast, fresh fruit, and a choice of milk or juice.
- *Substitutions will be made for students with documented allergies.
- *Substitutions may also be made in the event of a product being shorted by the manufacturer.
Free and reduced price meal applications are easily accessible to students and parents/guardians to complete. A link is located on the district website (see link below), school websites, school offices, the Floyd Board of Education, one will be sent home during the first week of school with the students and all nutrition managers will be set up with a chromebook and available to assist with an application during the open house time frames.
For this school year, Governor Kemp approved the use of federal funds to cover students who qualify for reduced price meals. Those who qualify for a reduced price meal will be provided a meal at no cost.
