Announcement from New Echota State Historic Site:
New Echota-Cherokee Capital State Historic will be hosting “Orienteering 101: Map and Compass Reading” on Saturday, April 26th, 2025. The program will take place from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and will travel around the historic grounds of New Echota-Cherokee Capital. This class is for those visitors who want to go off trail and still be aware of their location. Visitors will learn the basics of how to read and use a compass during a class led by one of the Rangers here on site. Visitors will use those skills taught by the Ranger to follow a set course using just a compass. This class is for beginners or for those that need a refresher course in compass reading. Admission fee is required upon entry of the site: $6-$8. New Echota is located one mile east of Interstate 75(Exit 317) on GA HWY 225 N. near Calhoun, Georgia.
