Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson wants the public to be cautious on area roadways and waterways around the 4th of July.
Locals will be taking to the streets, lakes, and pools throughout the holiday weekend, acknowledges Sheriff Roberson, who urges everyone to be aware of their surroundings and be careful.
Local law enforcement will be on hand at 4th of July celebrations around the community, according to Sheriff Roberson.
The FCSO will also be present for back to school events through the month of July, says Sheriff Roberson. He urges local students to enjoy the last days of summer break, including 4th of July weekend, but be cautious.
And here’s some advice from the Rome-Floyd Fire Department on fireworks – leave those to the pros. Shasta Farrer, Life and Fire Safety Educator, states that the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to go to a public display.
Farrer advises those who plan their own fireworks display to keep a bucket of water or garden hose handy in the event of a fire. Do not use fireworks when impaired by alcohol or drugs. Never try to re-light or handle a firework that malfunctions. And keep fireworks away from children!
