The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Athletics by 5-4 in 11 innings on Thursday night to finish a three-game set in Sacramento, CA. The Athletics took the series by 2-1.
Tyler Soderstrom hit a three-run homer that got the A’s on the board during the bottom of the first inning. The Braves notched three runs during the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Sean Murphy and a game-tying two-run homer by Jurickson Profar. They took the lead on a solo home run by Ozzie Albies in the top of the seventh. However, the A’s tied it up again on a home run by Nick Kurtz to open the bottom of the eighth and secured a 5-4 victory on walk-off single by Soderstrom in the bottom of the 11th.
Aaron Bummer took the loss for the Braves. Starting pitcher Spencer Strider gave up three runs and five hits, walked three, and struck out 11 over six and two-third innings. Justin Sterner got the win for the Athletics.
The Braves are now 40-52 for the 2025 regular season. They will be in St. Louis, MO over the weekend for a three-game set versus the Cardinals. The Rome Emperors lost at home to the Hub City Spartanburgers by 6-1 on Thursday night in the third match of a six-game set at AdventHealth Stadium. It allowed the Spartanburgers to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Game four is on tap for this evening at 7 pm.
