The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the one-county Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area recorded an unemployment rate of 3.7% in August, down two-tenths over the previous month. A year ago, the rate was 4.1%.
“Georgia is the No. 1 state for business, and we’re continuing to build a reputation as the top state for talent,” said Georgia Labor Commissioner Bárbara Rivera Holmes. “This August, every metro area in Georgia shows lower unemployment than a year ago, and our regional economies continue to see rates decline or hold steady. While month-to-month numbers may fluctuate, the year-over-year progress across all regions proves Georgia’s workforce strategy is delivering results for hardworking Georgians.”
The labor force in Rome fell 372 from last month and rose by 1,007 from August 2024, reaching 48,043.
Rome finished the month with 46,269 employed residents, down 238 over the month and up 1,138 from August 2024.
Rome ended August with 47,400 jobs, down 100 over the month and up 1,400 from the same time last year.
In August, initial unemployment claims in Rome decreased by 131 from the previous month and rose by 96 from the same month a year ago, totaling 281.
Northwest Georgia
- The unemployment rate was down four-tenths to 3.4% over-the-month. The rate was 3.9% one year ago.
- The labor force was down 2,769 over-the-month and up 355 over-the-year, to 454,710.
- The number of employed was down 842 over-the-month and up 2,473 over-the-year, to 439,134.
- Initial claims were down 2,413 over-the-month and up 16 over-the-year, to 1,739.
