There is still time to assist with the 38th annual Thanksgiving Love Feast, set for this Thursday, November 27th at the Rome Civic Center. It is again being sponsored by the Concerned Citizens of Rome and Floyd County. Members of the community are encouraged to pitch in their assistance by serving as a volunteer or making a donation.
Reverend Terrell Shields, Chairman of the Concerned Citizens, says that the traditional Thanksgiving dinner will be served to those in need from 11 am until 2 pm (or until food runs out).
Reverend Shields was inspired by his daughters nearly four decades ago to create the Love Feast. Terrica Shields recalls that she could not understand how some people could go without food on Thanksgiving. Her sister Cherish believed that their father could do something about it, and he did.
Thousands have been served since the first-ever Thanksgiving Love Feast in the late 1980s.
Those who would like to serve as a volunteer at this year’s event should call (706) 234-2091 to find out when they are most needed.
Donations are also sought. All checks may be sent payable to “Thanksgiving Love Feast” to P.O. Box 161, Rome, Georgia 30161. Donations may also be made by using the Cash app at $Lovefeast1987.
Warm winter coats and jackets are also sought for distribution to people in need at the Thanksgiving Love Feast. They may be taken to the Civic Center on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 6 pm until 8 pm. Donations of desserts will also be accepted at that time.
