The Atlanta Braves began a nine-game homestand on Monday night with an 11-3 victory over the New York Yankees in the first meeting of a three-game interleague set at Truist Park.
The Yankees got the board with a ground out by Harrison Bader in the top of the first. The Braves tied the game at 1-1 on a solo home run by Austin Riley in the bottom of that inning. The Yankees broke that tie with an RBI single from Isiah Kiner-Falefa during the top of the second. The Braves took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of that inning on a two-run single by Nicky Lopez and an RBI single by Michael Harris II. They added four more runs in the third on a two-run single by Eddie Rosario, an RBI single by Orlando Arcia, and an RBI single from Lopez. Riley scored another run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Rosario clubbed a two-run homer in the eighth. Anthony Volpe had an RBI triple for the Yankees in the ninth, but the Braves emerged victorious, again, by a final score of 11-3.
Max Fried was credited with the win for Atlanta after giving up just two runs and eight hits, walking one, and striking out two through six innings of work. Clarke Schmidt took the loss for New York.
The National League East-leading Braves improved their MLB-best record to 76-42 on the 2023 regular season. The Yankees are 60-59 and in last place of the American League East.
