The Atlanta Braves began postseason play on Tuesday afternoon with a loss to the Philadelphia Phillies by a final score of 7-6 in Game One of the teams’ National League Division Series at Truist Park.
The Phillies struck first with two runs off of Max Fried in the top of the first inning on RBI singles by Nick Castellanos and Alec Bohm. Travis d’Arnaud got the Braves on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the second. Philly scored two more runs in the third on a sac fly from Bohm and an RBI single by Jean Segura, two in the fourth on an RBI single by Castellanos, and another in the fifth on a sac fly by Edmundo Sosa. Travis d’Arnaud drove in another run for Atlanta on an RBI double during the bottom of the fifth. The Braves came within a run of the Phillies in the bottom of the ninth on a three-run homer by Matt Olson.
But that’s all she wrote for the Braves, and the Phillies held on for the win, again, by a final score of 7-6.
Fried was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering six runs (four of them earned) and eight hits, walking one, and striking out two in just three and one third innings of work. Seranthony Dominguez was credited with win for Philadelphia.
The Braves will host the Phillies in Game Two of their NLDS this afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:37 pm at Truist Park. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 3:20 pm.
Game Three in this best-of-five series is scheduled for this Friday at 4:37 pm up in Philadelphia. Game Four, if it is needed, will also be played at Citizens Bank Park this Saturday at 2:07 pm. If a Game Five is necessary, that will be played on Sunday at 4:37 pm in Atlanta.
