The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets 5-2 on Sunday in the finale of a five-game National League East set at Citi Field up in Flushing, New York. It allowed the first place Mets to take that series by four games to one. Their lead in the division now stands at six and a half games over the second place Braves, who were dealt their first three-game losing streak of the year.
New York scored four runs off Spencer Strider during the bottom of the third inning on RBI doubles from from Pete Alonso and Mark Canha. Jeff McNeil crossed home plate on a wild pitch by Braves reliever Collin McHugh during the fifth. Dansby Swanson got Atlanta on the board with a two-run homer off of Jacob deGrom in the top of the sixth.
But that’s all she wrote for the Braves, and the Mets won the game, again, by a final score of 5-3.
Strider was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and six hits, walking two, and striking out five in only two and two-third innings. DeGrom got the win in his second start of the season and Edwin Diaz secured the save for New York.
The Braves dropped to 64-46 on the ’22 season. They are off today and will continue their current 11-game road trip on Tuesday evening with the first of two interleague games in Boston, MA against the Red Sox.
