Adventure awaits those who join the Northwest Georgia Council of Scouting America, which currently seeks new members.
Perhaps those adventures may involve challenges presented by the weather.
Scouts from Troop 113 based at 2nd Avenue Baptist Church in Rome camped in the snow at Fort Mountain State Park in Chatsworth to finish the month of January. Scout Master Drew Conrad recalls that only a half an inch to an inch of snow was anticipated, but a total of six to seven inches actually fell. He adds that the heavier snowfall was unexpected, but the scouts adapted.
Conrad says that the scouts will never forget this camping trip, which taught them how to be resilient and that they can do hard things.
The scouts stayed warm and maintained contact with their parents throughout the camping trip, according to Conrad, who adds that they had a great story to tell their friends when they returned to school.
Scouts may not encounter snow during their adventures in the months ahead, but any time is a good time to join. That is according to Eric Vaughn, council board member. Information is online at www.beascout.org.
Vaughn adds that the Northwest Georgia Council of Scouting America has units all throughout the region, from Polk County to the Tennessee state line.
