Media release from Floyd County, GA Schools:
Coosa High School (CHS) is proud to announce the appointment of Jason Howard as the new Head Football Coach.
With an accomplished coaching career spanning more than three decades, Howard brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a proven record of success to the Eagles’ football program.
“I would like to thank the board and local administration for giving me the opportunity to lead the Coosa football program,” said Howard. “I am excited about getting started with the young men at Coosa, and working toward reaching our goals for the rest of the school year and into next school year. Coosa is a very special place that I have been blessed to be a part of for the past three years. I can’t wait to get started in this new role.”
Some of Coach Howard’s career achievements include his induction into the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame, being named the State 1A Football Coach of the Year, and receiving the Region Football Coach of the Year award seven times.
His coaching credentials include numerous awards in county and area coaching, two state championships in girls basketball as an assistant basketball coach, and one state championship in track. Additionally, Howard was granted the honor of having the field at Spring Garden High School named after him for his influence in the community.
Howard joined Coosa High School in 2023 as a PE and CTAE Teacher after having spent time in leadership positions throughout Alabama, including being the Head Football Coach/Athletic Director at both Ohatchee and Spring Garden High Schools.
Throughout his coaching career, Howard has coached one or more of the sports of football, basketball, baseball, softball, and track; Howard also has background experience in teaching history, ACT prep, computer science, and physical education.
“Coach Howard is more than an accomplished coach—he is a community builder,” said CHS principal Kristen Martin. “His heart for kids and his commitment to helping them grow as athletes and as people make him the perfect fit for Coosa High School. We are thrilled to welcome him into this leadership role and look forward to the positive impact he will continue to have on our students.”
Howard’s professional skills include developing weight programs, overseeing facilities, managing athletic operations, and fostering strong team cultures. His dedication to excellence both on and off the field has earned him multiple Teacher of the Year awards at Cedar Bluff High School and Spring Garden High School.
CHS looks forward to the next chapter of Eagles football under Coach Howard’s leadership.
