Media release from New Echota State Historic Site:
New Echota-Cherokee Capital State Historic Site, in Calhoun will be hosting Stand Clear Weapons are Here on April 11th, 2026, at the Vann Tavern from 1-2 pm. Rangers will be presenting a program discussing the hunting culture of the Cherokee and the weapons used in traditional southeastern Native American hunting.
Early hunting weapons including rivercane blow guns, atlatl and darts, spears and lances, clubs and knives were all important to early Cherokee. Visitors will have the opportunity to try their hand with some of the weapons that are presented in the program.
Admission fee ($6-$8) is required and includes admission to the Stand Clear Weapons are Here! Program, the museum, self-guided walking tour of the historic grounds and nature trails.
