Media release from AAA – The Auto Club Group:
ATLANTA (May 4, 2026) Georgia drivers continue to feel the strain as high fuel prices add to the burden of an already expensive economy. With the statewide average holding at $3.85 per gallon for regular gasoline, relief at the pump remains limited. As prices stay elevated, uncertainty among drivers continues to grow. To manage rising costs, drivers may need to plan ahead, shop around for the lowest prices, and adopt fuel‑saving strategies to make their dollars go further.
“Oil prices climbing above $100 a barrel are putting real pressure on drivers at the pump, and with global uncertainty high and the Strait of Hormuz still closed, there’s no clear relief in sight, “said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Because the situation is changing so quickly, AAA can’t predict how high prices might go. While Georgia drivers are paying less than the national average, rising gas prices are still stretching household budgets.”
Compared to recent benchmarks:
- 23 cents higher than last week
- 15 cents higher than last month
- 93 cents higher than this time last year
For those filling up a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, the cost is approximately $57.75.
Global Uncertainty Pushes Gas Prices Higher Nationwide
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline climbed 35 cents to $4.44, as ongoing global tensions continue to disrupt the oil market and keep prices volatile. Crude oil prices remain elevated, and as those costs move through the supply chain, drivers are seeing higher prices at the pump. We are well into the spring travel season, when demand has already increased and typically puts upward pressure on gas prices ahead of the busy summer driving months. With market conditions continually shifting, price uncertainty remains high nationwide.
Electric:
The national average per kilowatt hour of electricity at a public EV charging station went up by one cent this past week to 41 cents. Drivers can plan ahead by checking prices along their route with AAA’s TripTik Travel Planner.
Regional Prices:
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($3.91), Atlanta ($3.89), and Athens ($3.88).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Rome ($3.74), Brunswick ($3.72), and Valdosta ($3.71).
